Computer-Assisted Translation tools can be divided in different categories, such as translation memories, terminology management tools, language checking tools, and localization tools.

Translation memories (TM's)

Why? The translation process should be viewed in the long term. Translation memories are one of the modern support tools that optimize the management of translations from one project to the next.

How? Translation memories recover translations that have already been done, taking into account internal repetitions in documents, the consistency of translations and terminology, etc., thus reducing costs and time frames, at the same time as harmonizing quality.

What? Telelingua uses the following Translation memories tools: SDL Studio 2009/2011/2014, SDL Trados 2006/2007, memoQ, SDLX, Déjà Vu, Wordfast Pro, Accross, Transit, etc.

Terminology tools / BIGS® (Built-In Glossary System)

Why? Our customers want to be sure that the specific terms, abbreviations and nomenclature or a product name used by their headquarters and subsidiaries are correctly and consistently translated into different languages, across a large number of documents.

How? Apart from the translator's expertise, the solution we provide is BIGS® (Built-In Glossary System), our in-house “controlled language” tool that we use as part of our standard procedure. BIGS pre-processes the source documents using the customer-specific glossary so that the translator will see all glossary terms flagged, signifying that there is a corresponding, (client-)approved translation in our database. Our clients can access and edit this information via our portal using a secure login and password.

What? Apart from BIGS®, Telelingua also uses the following industry standards in Terminology tools: Multiterm, Termbase, Synthema, etc.

Advantages of BIGS® for our clients:

  • Centralization of terminology
  • Easy access 24/7
  • Import/export functions
  • Powerful search engine
  • Pre-translation of glossary terms
  • Terminology embedded in the master document

Quality Assurance tools / Language checking tools

Why? All along the translation process, there are many checks that would often be very time consuming or almost impossible to do manually. However, at the same time they are important for the quality of the translation, so we use powerful language checking tools to help us with these tasks.

How? Typical QA checks include checks for items like forgotten/empty/inconsistent translations, length comparison/verification, repeated words, double spaces, numbers, units, punctuation, capitalization, quotation marks, brackets, trademarks, terminology, spelling, and tags. In most tools we can also create customer-specific checks by using regular expressions.

What? Several QA tools are part of a Translation memory tool, e.g. QA Checker (SDL Studio), Quality Assurance (memoQ), Transcheck (Wordfast). For more powerful QA functions or to run checks in many different file types we may use stand-alone QA tools, such as QA Distiller, ErrorSpy, Verifika, Okapi CheckMate and ApSIC Xbench.

Localization tools

Why? Telelingua uses specialized localization tools to meet the specific demands of our customers in the software localization industry, and to optimize the process of translating multilingual websites, desktop and mobile apps, software and games.

How? Localization tools offer many typical functions for the translation of software and websites, such as: placeholder check, text fit check, overlapping check, leading/trailing spaces check, trailing colon/ ellipsis check, control character check, hotkey check, text fit check for detached strings and uniform translation check.

What? Telelingua uses the following localization tools: Passolo, RC-Wintrans, Catalyst, Windows Visual Basic C++, RoboHelp, HelpQA, HtmlQA, etc.
